In business and in life, there are many lessons and values that can lead someone to success, and others that will lead someone to failure. One such lesson is to be a hard-working, ambitious person who strives to do the best quality work possible, and achieve the most profitable results.
However, ambition isn't everything. The Go-Giver, by Bob Burg and John David Mann, is a parable about Joe, an ordinary man who's ambition can only take him so far. However, from several enlightening interactions with successful people, Joe learns the "Five Laws of Stratospheric Success" and learns to be a go-giver, both in his business and in everything he does.
The book's core premise is that giving value to others matters more than anything else. The book is short but sweet, and extremely personal since I learned the five laws along with Joe, and can apply them myself. As Joe progresses through his journey, I too can learn new ways to provide value to others. The book breaks down the core ways for a business or a person to succeed by creating strong values and bonds with the customers.
In a way an economic interaction resembles a conversation between two people; the reason they continue in a meaningful and thoughtful way is because they give each other value, with words or with products. A good conversation is one where participants make points of interest to each other, and a good economic transaction is one where both members give something of value to each other.
Since I'm not currently in any business, the book illustrates for me a way to create lasting relationships and interact with others in a way that creates value for everyone.
This book seems to be perfect to read before a job interview!
ReplyDeleteReally interesting blog Sam. I find it interesting how it frames everything as a "profitable" as it is meant to make everything be a positive gain or lesson. It's really intriguing that such a short book can teach somebody such important lessons while still giving examples of them. Thanks to the blog Sam, I will one hundred percent read the book and learn the "Five Laws of Stratospheric Success".
ReplyDeleteI think that it's really interesting that the reader can learn core values and lessons along with the main character. It kind of feels like your right alongside him. Good job!
ReplyDeleteI agree, that's one of the reasons books are so powerful and thought provoking. Thanks for reading!
DeleteThe Go-Giver seems like a information-rich book. From your blogpost, I can tell that the book holds many important lessons/tips. It's cool how this book doesn't only benefit people involved in business, as anyone who reads it will come out learning insightful information. My dad often listens to similar things, so I'll make sure to tell him about this book. Nice blog post!
ReplyDeleteThis seems like a really interesting way for and informational book to be structured. Having someone to learn with sounds really helpful. It looks like a really useful book too!
