A nail-biting blend of suspense, drama, sci-fi, and action, Prey dives deeply into the emerging fields of nanotechnology, artificial intelligence, and genetic engineering. The novel begins with Jack Forman, the unemployed software engineer who takes care of his kids while his wife, Julia, manages Xymos, a company creating revolutionary changes to nanotechnology and its applications. However, Julia begins acting strangely and tensions build in their relationship.
One day, Julia brings Jack to the Xymos facility manufacturing many tiny nanorobots, involving complicated and fascinating methods of genetically engineering biorobots to create controllable machines. However, something has gone terribly wrong- the nanorobots get released from the lab and evolve into terrible new strains that hunt down wildlife using a predatory code which Jack helped develop. Jack and a team of engineers and scientists frantically work to stop the nanorobots before they become to powerful.
Prey grabs your attention and never lets go, even after the book ends. The suspense ramps up throughout the story as new challenges arise and old assets get destroyed. I could hardly put the book down, and cannot recommend it more.

This is a great summary of the book. I will definitely check it out. I can see how this would be a difficult book to put down.
ReplyDeleteWow, Sam! The books seems like a great read. But one question, do the nanorobots infiltrate Julia's mind or something, and that is the cause of her acting atypically? Or is it just personal problems? Sounds like a great read, and I'll definitely try to read it once I clear up my neverending queue of books I want to read.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a really interesting novel! I usually don't like sci-fi since the tropes are rather predictable, but i think its interesting that they hunt wildlife as opposed to humans. Are there more natural aspects to the book as well? Ill have to read it!
ReplyDeleteThe only reason they're not hunting humans is because the nanorobots got locked out. If you're looking for some more naturalistic science-fiction, try Dune or Speaker for the Dead, but Prey may give you some interest in the genre if you've never tried sci-fi before. Thanks for reading!
